Welcome to Streatham Osteopaths

Streatham Osteopaths has been providing relief from back pain, sports injuries, headaches, and many other conditions for the people of Streatham and Tooting for since 1987. Based in the heart of the family orientated Furzedown area of Streatham, we often give talks at the Furzedown Project for the Elderly, The Rotary Club of Tooting, and the Furzedown and Penwortham Primary Schools, and we have excellent links with the local GPs’ surgeries.

Between the four of us, we treat the whole age range from Babies to the Elderly and use both Structural and Cranio-Sacral approaches. From Sports injuries to arthritis- please do not hesitate to contact us any time to ask us any queries you may have about how Osteopathy might be able to help you.

We have a massage therapist – Janet Schneider – who is skilled at numerous massage and alternative medicine disciplines and we also have a psychotherapist, Sophie Sarrassat, who specialises in Internal Family Systems therapy.

WHAT WE DO

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is an established system of diagnosis and treatment which emphasises the structural integrity of the body’s neuro-muscular-skeletal systems. It’s a form of natural medicine that uses manual techniques to identify stress, strain, and dysfunction within the human body and to relieve them.

Osteopaths use many of the same assessment and diagnostic procedures used in conventional medicine but is distinct in that it uses a holistic (whole person) approach and attempt to incorporate all aspects that might contribute to a person’s wellbeing, including occupation, lifestyle habits, diet, sport etc.

Osteopathy works to find health within the individual by improving the body’s structural integrity with techniques such as massage, joint articulation or manipulation and advice.
Dr Andrew Taylor Still – the founder of Osteopathy in 1874 termed this as ‘Structure Governs Function’ – and maintained that one of the main reasons for pain and illness was because of structural barriers that could be overcome with manual therapy.
